Akshay Kumar got the cash registers ringing in 2007 when his psychological comedy horror film Bhool Bhulaiyaa hit screens. Over the years, the Priyadarshan directorial has gained a cult following among cinema lovers and many happily rewatch it even today, However, when the sequels hit screens, it was Kartik Aaryan who played the lead and not Kumar.

During a recent fan interaction, the ‘Sky Force’ actor got candid about Aaryan replacing him in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and 3. Read on to know his answer.

During a recent fan interaction hosted by Pinkvilla, a fan informed Akshay Kumar that they haven’t watched Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 as he wasn’t a part of the sequels. To this, the actor said, “Beta, mujhe nikaal diya tha (I was removed). That’s it.”

About the franchise

The first instalment of Bhool Bhulaiyaa – a remake of the 1993 Malayalam film, Manichitrathazhu, saw Akshay Kumar essay the role of Dr Aditya Shrivastava, a psychiatrist. The film also starred Vidya Balan as a woman with dissociative identity disorder who believes she’s possessed by the ghost of a dancer. The film earned itself a loyal fa following thanks to its perfect blend of horror and comedy.

Released in 2022, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 saw Kartik Aaryan take on the lead role. The film – also starred Kiara Advani and Tabu, got fans talking thanks to its fresh take on Manjulika. The third part in the franchise released in 2024 and starred Vidya Balan, Madhuri Dixit Nene and Triptii Dimri in pivotal roles.
